About Nanaimo & Area
Nanaimo

Nanaimo is situated on Vancouver Island between Georgia Strait and Mount Benson, about 1 ½ hours from Victoria.  Nanaimo is Vancouver Island’s 2nd largest City and 3rd oldest City in B.C.  A scenic 15 minute float plane ride or a 1 ½ hour cruise on one of our new super ferries lands you in Vancouver.

Home to more than 80,000 people, Nanaimo has a small town feel with large City amenities.  The spectacular Port of Nanaimo Convention Centre, The Port Theatre, V.I. University, new Ice Centre and Museum, along with revitalized shopping malls, plenty of restaurants and coffee shops provide residents and visitors alike with a wonderful quality of life.  588 hectares of parks, more than 100 kilometres of walking and bike trails, as well as some of the world’s best diving, kayaking and boating areas encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Most golf courses in and around Nanaimo take advantage of the temperate climate and remain open all year round.  Our neighbouring communities, Ladysmith, Chemainus, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino, all add their own special charms to life in this area.  A consistent winner of one of best locations in the top 25 Canada travellers choice destinations awards, Nanaimo truly is a great place to live, work or visit.
